(WASHINGTON) – Today, Eastern Market Main Street (EMMS) announced the 2017 recipients of their Façade Improvement Program. The grant program is intended to stimulate improvements to commercial buildings and help build a stronger business community. Generously supported by the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, EMMS announced seven (7) grants totally $20,000. The recipients are Antiochia USA, Boxcar Tavern, Clothes Encounters, Fairy Godmother, Joselito, Tunnicliff’s Tavern, and Woven History and Silk Road.
Owners and tenants of existing commercial buildings located within EMMS’ commercial corridor boundaries were encouraged to apply and eligible projects included awning repair and replacement, lighting updates and additions, signage, and other façade repairs and replacements. The program would fund up to 70% of the total project, with a maximum of $4,000 per recipient. This year’s grants ranged from $500 to $3,800.
EMMS looks forward to offering this program again in 2018 and continuing to invest in the design and physical integrity of commercial structures on the corridor.
Eastern Market Main Street is a designated DC Main Streets program and is funded in part by the Department of Small and Local Business Development.
