You’re invited to haunt the Hill this Halloween with your very own scarecrow creation! Make the scariest, the funniest, or the most creative scarecrow this October and win prizes from your favorite Eastern Market Main Street businesses. Here’s how it works:

1. Sign up in our form here! You will be emailed a link to register your scarecrow’s location on the Padlet map. You must create an account to do so, but don’t worry, it’s free! You must be 18+ or have an adult register for the family.

2. Create your scarecrow! This is a DIY challenge, so the design and structure of the scarecrow is up to you. There are only a few rules:

a. Scarecrows must be family-friendly with no higher than a PG-13 rating even on the scary ones.

b. Scarecrows cannot use overtly political messaging or themes to be eligible for judging.

c. Scarecrows cannot be recognizably repurposed from store-bought scarecrows. We want your wonky homemade Pinterest board scarecrows!

3. One scarecrow entry per address.

4. Scarecrow judging will be held the week before Halloween with a fun weekend launch on Saturday, October 24th. Voting will be held online, and participants will get a yard sign with a QR code link.

5. Judging categories are:

a. Scariest: Who’s got the spookiest, most classically scary scarecrow out there?

b. Funniest: Who leaned into comedy and made us laugh?

c. Most Creative: Who really went above and beyond or used the oddest and most unexpected materials on their scarecrow?

The winner of each category will receive $500 in gift cards to Eastern Market Main Street businesses as well as bragging rights and a prize ribbon.
