Eastern Market Main Street Announces 2019 Grant Recipients
(WASHINGTON) – Today, Eastern Market Main Street (EMMS) announced the 2019 recipients of their Façade Improvement and Technical Assistance Grant Programs. The programs are intended to stimulate improvements to commercial buildings and encourage investments in a wide range of business assistance to increase the capacity of small businesses.
Generously supported by the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, EMMS announced 11 grants totaling $19,784. Recipients of the Façade Improvement Program included Bowers Fancy Dairy Products of Eastern Market, Eastern Market Pottery, Eye Central, The Eastern, and Paik Produce of Eastern Market. Recipients of the Technical Assistance Program included District Orthodontics, Groovy DC, Quavaro, The Eastern, Union Meat of Eastern Market, and Yinibini Baby. This year’s grants ranged from $276 to $2,000.
Small business owners and building owners located within EMMS’ corridor boundaries were encouraged to apply and eligible projects ranged from awning repair, lighting updates, and signage to accounting, government regulation, and marketing assistance. EMMS plans to continue offering small business grant programs in 2020, as part of its mission to capitalize on the historic assets and entrepreneurial culture to promote, retain, and attract diverse, small businesses through the Main Street Four-Point Approach: Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Vitality.
