From EMMS to DGS - June 19, 2017

Updated: Dec 14, 2018

Over the last several months, there have been numerous discussions in the neighborhood about the future of outdoor market activity on 7th Street SE, which is within Eastern Market Main Street's (EMMS) boundaries. EMMS held a listening session on Tuesday, May 23 to hear concerns and thoughts from our business owners on the continued closure of 7th Street SE between C Street and Pennsylvania Avenue and the overall vision for the various weekend market activities. Following that meeting and further conversations with business owners on our commercial corridor, we wrote a letter to the Director of the Department of General Services, Greer Gillis, that was approved by the EMMS board on June 16, 2017 and sent on June 19, 2017.

EMMS looks forward to continued conversation around this issue that addresses the concerns of the businesses while still maintaining and enriching the weekend markets with creative solutions.
